For our PCS Kindermusik families, Kindermusik day quickly becomes one of their favorite days of the week. That’s because Kindermusik is more than just a weekly music class—it’s a time for grown-ups and children to bond, laugh, and learn together.
The grownups love coming to Kindermusik not only for the chance to connect with other adults but also for the joy of seeing their child grow and thrive. Even better, they leave with simple tools and fun activities that make the rest of their week easier, calmer, and more musical!
Here are a few favorite Kindermusik routines and rituals you can take home and use throughout the week at home:
Sing Your Way Through the Day
Transitions are often challenging for little ones, but music can make them easier. In Kindermusik class, teachers often sing during transitions – like when it’s time to put toys or instruments away – helping children understand what’s happening next. It’s amazing how quickly children pick up on these cues!
Parents tell us that they love bringing this idea home, singing simple transition songs like “Toys away!” when it’s time to clean up. But this trick works for so much more than tidying up. You can make up a short song for just about any moment of the day – getting dressed, washing hands, or even heading out the door. Adding a little music to everyday tasks makes them feel smoother and more enjoyable.
Calm, Cuddle, and Connect with Quiet Time
After a busy stretch of activity, Kindermusik families look forward to Quiet Time in the middle of class – a special moment when the lights are dimmed, twinkling stars come out, soft music plays, and adults and children relax together. It’s a time to reconnect and simply be present with one another. Loving touch, gentle rocking, and soothing sounds help both adults and children to calm, connect, release tension, and recharge for the rest of the day.
Many families love bringing this calming ritual home, especially after an exciting afternoon or before bedtime. A peaceful song dims lights, and a comforting cuddle can turn even the most chaotic day into the sweetest and most peaceful of moments. It’s a wonderful way to help your child unwind and feel safe while creating a rhythm for relaxation that they will treasure.
Turn Reading into a Special Ritual
Story Time is one of the highlights of each Kindermusik class. Children gather on the story blanket with grownups close around to enjoy a book together, creating a magical sense of connection through reading.
At home, families can recreate this special routine by designating a cozy corner for stories or perhaps using a favorite blanket or chair where you always read together. Reading at the same time each day, whether it’s before bed or after lunch, helps make this a comforting and delightful part of your child’s daily rhythm.
And the magic doesn’t have to end there! Singing or playing gentle music after a story, just like in class, can extend the quiet and happy feelings of your reading time, creating a wonderful transition to quiet play, naptime, or bedtime.
Make Every Day a Little More Musical
Perhaps the most cherished part of Kindermusik is the music itself – and the good news is, the songs and activities don’t have to stay in class! Kindermusik families take home every song they sing in class with the Kindermusik app. This means that at any moment, parents can bring the joy of Kindermusik into any part of their day, no matter where they are. Whether it’s dancing together in the living room or listening to favorite songs during a car ride, music – and the bond through Kindermusik – becomes a joyful thread that runs through the entire week. But it’s not just about listening. The playful ideas, helpful tips, and creative activities that the teachers share in class are just as valuable at home. From finger plays to clapping games, the skills and connections built into every Kindermusik class can weave their way into everyday moments, making life a little brighter, more playful, and more musical.
